Held at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida, the IBJJF Pan American Championship was back to crown more major IBJJF Champions.
Unstoppable Dalpra
Once again the AOJ standout showed why he is currently the best middleweight in the gi, with some exciting matches and submissions. These included Dalpra submitting Roberto Jiminez and an exciting back and forth with ATOS’ Ronaldo Jr.
Ultimately Tainan Dalpra went on to win his second Pans title at black belt with a decisive win over Jeferson Guaresi from Unity.
This IBJJF major title is also Dalpra’s 29th straight win. Is there anyone who can dethrone the reigning middleweight?
Incredible Female Division
The female black belt division had some of the most exciting storylines of the entire event. The first would be new mum Amanda Monteiro Canuto, who fought her way through the light featherweight division to claim silver in the finals. Mayssa Bastos and Ana Rodriguez once again dominated their respective divisions to add more major IBJJF titles to their growing collection.
This year’s Pans also saw the return of Ffion Davies, who looked promising in her first match, submitting her opponent in under a minute.
The story of the championship, however, is Nathalie ‘Tata’ Ribiero’s win over favourite Ffion Davies. The two battled hard for ten minutes, with Tata scoring a sweep on Davies midway through the match to secure the two points and the 2022 Pan American title. These two have had a long rivalry which will likely continue for many years to come.
