Some of the best brown belts and Black belts fighting in two separate Gi Grand Prix.

London Warriors Cup Grand Prix Series took place on November 7th at the Gauntlet Academy  in London. Eight brown belts and eight black belts fought on 2 different series putting on a show of action and submissions.

You can watch the whole event here on GrappleCulture for free.

Among the Brown belts we had some of Europe’s finest: Faris Benlamkadem, Pedro Cadete, Richy B., Ollie Dillon, Abdallah Allam, Alexandre Baffoun, Will K. and, directly from Brazil, Gabriel Muguet. The black belt division was filled with fighters we are used to find at the top of the podium: Tommy Langaker, Ellis Younger, Sebastian Williams, Oscar Gugala, Dinu Bucalet, Sam Gibson, Bader Kuzhai and Mike Uka.

The night before the event the 8 man bracket was randomly divided into two pools of fighters, the blue group  & the red group. This is how the teams ended up:

BLACK BELTS BLUE GROUP:

Tommy Langaker

Ellis Younger

Sam Gibson

Bader Kuzhai

BLACK BELTS RED GROUP:

Sebastian Williams

Oscar Gugala

Mike Uka

Dinu Bucalet

BROWN BELTS BLUE GROUP:

Faris Benlamkadem

Ollie Dillon

Pedro Cadete

Gabriel Muguet

BROWN BELTS RED GROUP:

Richy B.

Will K.

Abdallah Allam

The fighters of each group faced each other accumulating points in order to advance into the finals.

The event chose the IBJJF point system but without advantages or decisions and adding some nice extra bonus points that would spice the matches up:

  • Victory via Submission: 6 points
  • Victory via points : 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Submission in under 2 minutes: +2 points
  • Win by a 10+ points difference: +2 points
